Cancer and the Medically Frail Client

Cost: $390 (covers both days)
Saturday and Sunday, August 1st & 2nd from 9am-5pm each day
This course will cover considerations for people living with cancer and other medically frail conditions. We will address the following:
• basic anatomy and physiology as applicable
• cancer treatments and its side effects
• pressure, positioning and site concerns
• indications and contraindications for this bodywork
• hospital culture
• medication classifications
• referrals and doctor orders
• documentation and medical abbreviations
Various massage techniques and routines will be demonstrated and practiced, as well as
hands-on work using gloves. Students should bring lotion (not oil), sheets, 2-3 pillows for
second day, and wear or bring comfortable clothing (shorts, t-shirts, stretch pants, no jeans).
Class time will be 9am to 5pm each day, with a morning and afternoon break and a 45 minute lunch.

BIO
Since 2008, Luci has been massaging clients in many areas and with various conditions. For 16
years she has been teaching in massage programs along with continuing ed classes. In
addition, she was the Lead Massage Therapist with a NJ hospice company for a decade. Her
education includes oncology certification, personal training and the NY program which
included Asian bodywork. Her passion lies in working with people with serious medical
conditions, and her specialties include manual lymphatic drainage, pregnancy and foot
reflexology.
